My preliminary work colour scheme is Blue,
white and black and I used those colours because it’s the same colours on the
school website. The masthead of my title was placed on the top of the page and
it and it’s the biggest font on the magazine cover page. This tells the
audience and readers that this is the schools brand identity and the colour scheme is consistent and is throughout the other pages. The main story cover article is the next big
font to show that this was the featured story on the magazine and it was linked
to the main image of a student wearing a suit. I chose that image because it
was formal and because this was a school newspaper it would be the appropriate
mode of address and it is representing the school. I called my School magazine
‘Rookscool’ and the ‘R’ is from the school logo which also part of the brand
identity and the school is called Rooks Heath. I made School sound like Cool
because that is what the students like to think about themselves and they can
relate to it.
As this was a magazine for parents, teachers
and Students I used language that all can relate to and that would keep them
interested to my magazine and wrote about other content that all three
demographic are interested in. There was information in the article which
informed all three demographic, there was school dates which parents needed to
know when school is open and closed, there was a timetable for the students to
know which exams they had. The school magazine was also entertaining it,
sections in the school magazine appealed to the students. This is the uses and
gratifications theory in which it finds the specific media to target the
audiences need. In the school magazine there is information, Entertainment and
Social interaction.
In the content page I used the same colour
scheme that I used for my magazine cover page to make it look consistent. The
images I used were taken outside and where edited so that it can be placed in
my magazine. The layout of my school magazine is simple and doesn't look messy,
images all have anchors which explain what is going on in the picture so that
readers know what it is and it has been placed in that position for a reason
which is so that the audience don’t get confused and lose interest in the magazine
